Wild Tim

Why We Love Baseball # 271 :
Ya never know...

Just when you think you've got these guys figured out, the '09 Giants will mess with your mind. Tim pitched like crap AND WE STILL WON. We fell behind by 4 runs (twice) AND WE STILL WON. Pablo struck out three times (a first for him) AND WE STILL WON. These things are not suppose to happen. Especially...

Tim Lincecum delivered his weakest start of the year and (for the third time) failed to get his 13th victory. The numbers are rather harsh: 6 innings, 6 hits (including a solo HR), 5 EARNED RUNS, and here is the kicker: he actually walked more people than he struck out (3 to 2) ! Tim had a 30 pitch nightmare: a 4 run inning that featured a base loaded walk to a .200 hitter and a 2 RBI single (although it sounded like a bad call) by the friggin' pitcher. Totally ugly, easily the worst ever, but I'm not going to fret too much about it. Sh*t happens. At one point, he had thrown 24 balls out of 50 pitches. Clearly out of rhythm. I can't wait to see how he responds with his next start. Pity the fools.

Special Congrats to GARKO, GARKO, GARKO!!! ( I don't know why I always feel the need to say his name three times like that. Weird, huh? ) Not a bad night when you tie the game up and then win it in extra innings. Welcome aboard, Ryan!

I like the Garko-Garko-Garko thing. Suits him. I worry we have acquired a RH Travis Ishikawa without the good glove. I hope this guy can hit.

This is a most impressive win--coming from behind on the road? Tim's rotten start? Wow! I jinxed him with my prediction. No more predictions, I promise.

Another hero job from a previously useless player. What's going on?
I prefer GARK GARK GARK, then you sound like a sea lion, but that's just me.
Even in his worst outing the freak went six innings. The boy's alright.

Kudos to the much-maligned Winn (2 for 4 with a BB) and even Rowand who contributed a hit. Garko, 4 rbi on two big hits. The announcers are high on Winn "getting his stroke back" after flailing for most of the season, let's hope they are correct. If Winn really is hitting, he really should be in the two hole instead of Renteria. Our team consists of a bunch of guys who are supposed to be able to hit doubles, with an occasional hr thrown in. That is not a bad thing in theory, but seems to work only when guys hit a lot (duh!). I like it when it works. I would note, though that the Giants saw at total of 20 pitches in the first two innings. Great bullpen work, too. Romo looked awesome.

Randy Winn is a notorious slow starter, August/September bloomer. We are now in his salad days. We should stick him in the lineup every day. Aside from his great late season hitting, we ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS (GARK, GARK, GARK) get one guy in the lineup who can make a pitcher work & draw a walk, run the bases intelligently, play good outfield, &, yes, hit some doubles. If you want Schierholtz in the lineup more, have him split time with Rowand & Velez, too. On the other hand, Schierholtz is the best pinch-hitter in baseball now & has a great arm for those late inning needs. Those aren't bad things, either. Suddenly, our OF is an asset! Even Fred contributes once-in-awhile.
