Gritty Tim

Start #23   WIN  !!!!   (6-11)    6 innings   5 hits   1 run    5 walks   3 strikeouts

WOO-HOO!  Two Tim Lincecum wins in a row!  That hasn't happened since April 23 and 28.  Yes, of this year!  Timmy certainly didn't have his best stuff (10 baserunners in 6 innings is not wonderful), but he kept the damage to a minimum and lead the Giants to the win, 8-3, and a gratifying three game sweep of the hapless rookies.

It isn't great that Tim had a miserable 36 pitch, 2 walk, one wild pitch first inning. But it is great that he is finding a way to survive that kind of thing now.  It wasn't too long ago that a bad inning meant doom to the Freak.  Is the "new" Tim going to have to live with this new ugly high WHIP lifestyle?  It is beginning to look that way.  Krukow will love it; all that manly talk of toughing it out and fortitude, blah, blah.  Oh well, the good news is Timmeh is now 3-1 with a 2.48 ERA in his last five starts since the ASB.  Definitely a nice trend ... not Vogelsongian, but nice, indeed.

The good:  This is a good chance for me to continue my Hunter Pence love-fest.  Today's contribution included a pair of RBI doubles.  One was a beautiful smash off the right field wall.  It appears that he has a Buster Posey-like ability to crush outside pitches.  Gives me shivers just thinking about it.  I know Hunter is sure twitchy in batter's box ... not exactly pretty... but the results are SWEET!

Oh, by the way, Melky Cabrera and Buster Posey look like World Champions to me.  It is a privilege to get to follow these guys.

And just think how good Mr. Pence could look with a healthy Panda in the lineup. Whatever Tim had to do, he did. Gave us 6 innings and gave up only 1. I'll take it.

You get six solid in Coors and you've done your job. That place is a nightmare. Good thing the Giants swept, losing to the Crox with their current setup and that silly pitch limit thing would have been embarrassing.

Dodgers won in the 9th, unfortunately.

Timmy got out number one in the first inning on 8 pitches, took him 3 more pitches to get out number 2, then it took him 25 more pitches to get out number 3. Luckily he only gave up one run. He almost pulled-off a Zito. The bums eeked out a one run win. Lets hope the giants can keep their winning ways against a good team. Timmy may have reached 92 mph once during that outing. 5 walks and 3 K's makes me feel as if he got away with one, instead of dazzled them. Now if Tim can win his next 5 outings he will be 11 and 11, and we can go from there.

"not Vogelsongian, but nice, indeed": Classic.

I like Hunter! I can get used to a bunch of goofy guys with goofy stances: Gary Brown in CF. Belt in 1B if he ever learns to stop thinking, get hisself a pitch to hit and wack the piss out of it (reference: Will Clark pep talk, beginning of the year)...

Gonna be a tight tight race. Execute the D, tighten up the pitching, straighten out the pen and we'll score enough runz I think. Pence is good stuff. Now if Pagan can respond to the challenge, we‘ll have a legit offense with Pablo back.

Isn't anyone else as excited as I am that we have acquired Xavier Nady? He may be in Fresno now, but you can only hold down Xavier Nady for so long.

And Jose Mijares, lefty specialist. Watch out, Javier Lopez!
